Lokoja — Dispute over ownership of oil wells between Anambra and Kogi States will be determined in the next six months by the National Boundary commission.
Director General, National Boundary Commission, Dr Mohammed Bose Ahmed, stated this yesterday in Lokoja at the Anambra and Kogi interstate boundary meeting.
Dr Ahmed said the boundary under dispute was last demarcated in 1954, adding that development and population have necessitated a need to carry out another demarcation.
He said the demarcation will help to resolve issues surrounding the boundaries, noting that discoveries of natural resources have made determination of boundaries in the country very difficult.
He said the present exercise to determine the Anambra/Kogi boundary was a presidential directive, appealing for cooperation from the states involved.
Responding, Kogi State deputy governor, Arc Yomi Awoniyi, who is also chairman of the state's boundary committee, said Kogi will do all it can towards an amicable resolution of the issue.
He appealed to boarder communities in the two states to allow government carry out its work without rancour.
The oil dispute between Anambra and Kogi State started when President Goodluck Jonathan declared Anambra an oil producing state.
