PC Anthony Wallyn, who stands at 7 feet 2 inches (2.19 metres), has been standing guard outside the hospital with his colleague PC Tony Thirch who, at 5 feet 6 inches (1.7 metres), is the smallest officer in the Metropolitan police's Westminster borough support unit.

The colleagues are known as 'Big Tone' and 'Little Tone', reports The Guardian.

Wallyn, who has size 17 feet, joined the police force four years ago and has to have his uniform custom-made to fit his tall frame.

He admitted he is used to receiving attention for his height, saying: "I get 100 to 500 requests for a photo each day. It's like being famous but without the money. It's happened every day of my life. If it didn't happen I would be worried."

The Queen was admitted to hospital yesterday (March 3) "as a precaution" after suffering from a stomach bug.
